A Present from the past - Hampi

Hampi is presently known for its past. An open museum exhibiting ruins of what was built during the vijayanagara kingdom declared as a UNESCO site. The intricate structures , majestic complexes , step pools , the plumbing made under and over the ground with rocks just dwarfs the thought of current technological 'advancement'. Hampi has 2 sides , either side of the river Tunga. One side of it is a proper tourist place , the hampi town it's called. The other side across the river sanapura is very peaceful  , consists of a lot of backpacker hostels. Backpackers and travellers who are looking for a peaceful stay will prefer sanapura. Best time to visit hampi is during monsoon (july- September ) and winter ( December to mid of January ) . Simmers are extremely hot. You can get around hampi by hiring a bicycle or scooter. There is a weird rule I think set by the locals themselves that scooters hired across the river will not be permitted inside the limits of the other side. For example , if you hire a scooter in sanapura , you can drive it only on that side of the river. You can't take that scooter and enter into hampi . Hampi is well connected from around the country. If you do not have straight trains to hampi, you can get down at guntakal junction and take a train from there. This is a photo series from my recent backpacking trip to hampi .
